First, a little information about kidney transplants: need and availability.
As of February 2023, there are 88,658 people on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the Untied States. There are more than 106,000 people on the national transplant waiting list, with 92,000 (87%) waiting for a kidney. In 2016, 20,161 kidney transplants were performed in the United States. The need for donor kidneys is rising at 8% per year, yet their availability has not grown to match.
I have a dear friend named Kellie. We have known each other for about 45 years. On top of our long term friendship we both have Type 1 Diabetes.
Kellie is in need of a kidney transplant and is currently on dialysis. While dialysis is keeping her alive it is not a cure. In fact, a person can only be on dialysis for three years. Kellie just finished year one. This is one of the not-so-wonderful gifts that diabetes presents to some.
A kidney donation can come in one of two ways. The first way is from someone who has died and has either designated themselves as an organ donor or their next of kin can approve of the deceased being a donor. The second way is from a Living Donor. You can read about the Living Donor program by selecting the UC Health - Transplant Services button near the bottom of this page. The Transplant Services page has a lot of helpful information to help one make an educated decision.
If you decide not to become a Living Donor I hope that you will designate yourself as an Organ Donor. Your donations can make a positive change to the lives of up to seven people. As of now 47 of 50 states use Drivers Licenses to identify a designated organ donor.
I hope that you will take away some knowledge from the links which I have provided. Lastly, PLEASE feel free to share this webpage with anyone on your email or message list. The more people who see this page the better chance we have of finding a kidney for Kellie.
Thanks to all.

* The sole purpose of this webpage is to help my friend find a donor kidney. I am asking that this webpage be shared only if the individual feels comfortable in doing so.
The only thing I am asking for is for people to designate as an Organ Donor. And it was more of a suggestion.
